And next week you can write out the lyrics to the Beatles' "Taxman". Even Clinton lied to us and said he was going to cut taxes before he got elected. Obama didn't even wait. At least he's up front about it. McCain can't call him on it because he might get a follow-up question that he wouldn't be able to answer because the economy confuses him.

I used to think America was capitalist except for the few New Deal / Great Society morons who believed in compassionate communism. The free market wall streeters were only capitalists because they didn't need anything. Once they did the komrades turned to the guiding hand of mother 'Amerika'.

Its almost as bad as when my fourth grade class voted on the music for our end of school party and the Bee Gees won over Led Zeppelin and Rush. What is wrong with these people?

I just can't believe what I'm hearing in my country, the United States of America. Our government has been bringing us closer and closer to socialism for years, but saying it out loud that you are going to re-distribute the wealth. WOW! My husband always said that if the Democrats won this election, they would make sure they would never lose again. They will put so many social, and handout, programs in place that lower income people will always vote for them. And, we will legalize 20 million uneducated illegal immigrants and they will vote democrat. Pretty soon we will have half of the country on a handout program, and the rest of us working to pay for it.

Here are some tidbits I think are appropriate to this discussion:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by dictatorship.” -Scottish professor Sir Alex Fraser Tytler (1714-1778) of the University of Edinburgh

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” – Edmond Burke

********
Catching Wild Pigs (An inteteresting tale)

A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punchline. The young man said this was no joke. ' You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactl y what he sees happening to America .. The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose our freedoms -- just a little at a time.

One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Also, if you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

In this 'very important' election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you !!

Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America ..

'A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.

Ron,

I have a much better idea. . . How about we keep the illegal immigrants that are busting their booties working their tails off in this country (I'm watching a crew of them build a house right outside my window), and then deport the "people on welfare that are capable of working" (but aren't) on a one for one basis.

I - agree with Billy V

We have become a country of one party consisting of two parts; and each in cahoots with the other and no longer representing anything but themselves.

Needs to come to an end before "We the country" does!

Neither candidate is talking about abolishing the FR and returning to sound money. They both voted for the bailout that didn't and will not work. Neither discusses smaller government and restoring the constitution.
They're both just two sides of the same coin.

The two party system has become a scam.

c'mon people,
can't you just understand how inopportune this crisis is to those two guys?
mccain wants to talk wars, lower taxes, guns rights other things on his issue list...
obama wants to talk healthcare, hiking taxes for the wealthy etc...
and everyone of you expects them to talk about you and your problems: diminishing standard of living, increasing indebtness, vanishing jobs, high gas prices etc...

you just don't fit in their frame of mind. you are so out of touch with them... or maybe they are out of touch with you and reality?!?!?!

Halifax makes a point. In 1978 I workied in a bookstore for the Libertarian Party. We read a lot of books and we're not surprised. Demopublicrats are in process of destroying our country in their stuggles for power and manipulating the free market to buy votes. Many economists understand the economic cycles but they were not heard in the cacaphony of the political in-fighting. All signers of Decl of Ind and Constitution knew Roman & Greek history. Their question was: Why does a Repulic fail after 200 years? At Mt Rushmore quote of Geo Washington is "This is an experiment." We have been usurped from inside by comfort and complacency. Our children no longer understand what these questions mean because the school systems have been overtaken by people with an agenda. Freedom requires vigilance.
Toynbee pointed out that a civilization is in decline when the upper classes emulate the speech, dress and mannerisms of the lower classes.
F.A. Hayek quotes Walter Lippmann in Mirage of Social Justice (Vol II of Law Legislation and Liberty): In a free society the state does not administer the affairs of men. It administers justice among men who conduct their own affairs.
The most exciting books I have ever read were 1) Rules and Order and (Vol I of Law Legislation and Liberty) and 2) Bruno Leoni Freedom and the Law in which he posits that the weakness of democracy is the legislative body.
