Deep Down Inside, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

By Cody Willard

Sometimes the Universe delivers the perfect song at the perfect time for ya. I was walking to the West 4th Subway stop this morning, thinking about that what I’d written in that post I’d written yesterday about wondering what I’m doing on TV for a living. And existentially I suppose, I was also thinking about writing that post I’d written yesterday. Not surprisingly, I suppose, there’s been some confusion and/or purposeful misinterpretation of what I’d meant.

Anyway, the first song that hits as I skipped the song in midstream when I put in my headphones (I hate starting a song mid-song…I wanna hear what the artist meant me to hear, you know?) was my main man, the man whom I’ve named my rock band after (Museum of the Horse…we do Crazy Horse covers, see?), the very reason I play guitar as I’ve explained before on The Cody Blog.

We almost had Neil Young booked on Happy Hour for news of his Java/Blu-Ray release…oh, I seriously don’t know what I would have done. I’d have been like Chris Farley when he interviewed Paul McCartney on Saturday Night Live. “Doh! Stupid, stupid, stupid!”

At any rate, the song, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. The lyrics, as only Senor Young could write them:

I think I’d like to go back home
And take it easy
There’s a woman that I’d like to get to know
Living there

Everybody seems to wonder
What it’s like down here
I gotta get away from this day-to-day
running around,

Everybody knows
this is nowhere.

Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows.

Every time I think about back home
It’s cool and breezy
I wish that I could be there right now
Just passing time.

Everybody knows
this is nowhere.
Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows.

Oh, Neil, I know, I know. This is nowhere, even as I am happy I’m somewhere.
